To help you get started, the book offers a set of ready project ideas, each built around a real economic issue. You are free to pick any one of these, or to choose a different topic of your own that deals with an economic problem.

The suggested projects are:

  1. Acting as an adviser to the Transport Minister, prepare a report on building a better, coordinated transport system.
  2. Working in a village cottage industry (dhoop, agarbatti, candles, jute products, etc.), prepare a project proposal for a bank loan to start your own new unit.
  3. As a marketing manager who has just advertised a product, report on the effect of the advertisements on its sale.
  4. As a District Education Officer, assess literacy levels and the reasons children drop out of school.
  5. As a Vigilance Officer, investigate complaints of traders charging above the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) by visiting a few shops.
  6. As the head of a Gram Panchayat, address the improvement of amenities such as safe drinking water.
  7. As a representative of a local government, assess women's participation in various employment schemes.
  8. As a Chief Health Officer of a rural block, identify health and sanitation problems to be tackled.
  9. As the Chief Inspector of Food and Civil Supplies, survey the extent of food adulteration after a complaint.
