Wood and iron feel equally warm or cold only when they are at the same temperature as the human body, because at that temperature no heat flows either way, so the difference in thermal conductivity no longer matters.

At room temperature, iron feels colder than wood (even though both are at the same temperature) because iron is a much better thermal conductor: it rapidly conducts heat away from our warmer skin, giving a strong sensation of cold, whereas wood is a poor conductor and barely draws heat away.
