The Journal is ruled with five standard columns:

DateParticularsL.F.Debit Amount (₹)Credit Amount (₹)
Date of transactionAccount debited...Dr. / To Account credited / (Being — narration)Ledger folioAmount debitedAmount credited
  1. Date — the date on which the transaction occurred; entries follow strict chronological order.
  2. Particulars — the account debited is written first, with 'Dr.' against it; the account credited is written on the next line, preceded by 'To'; the narration is written below both lines, in brackets, starting with 'Being'.
  3. L.F. (Ledger Folio) — left blank when the entry is first journalised, and filled in with the relevant ledger page number only once the entry has actually been posted; it is the cross-reference linking the Journal to the Ledger.
  4. Debit Amount — the amount of the transaction, written against the account debited.
  5. Credit Amount — the same amount, written against the account credited; for a simple entry the Debit and Credit columns always show an identical figure.

✓Final answer

The five columns are Date, Particulars (debit account + 'Dr.', credit account preceded by 'To', and the 'Being...' narration), L.F. (filled only on posting), Debit Amount and Credit Amount — for a simple entry the debit and credit columns always carry the same figure.
