Tag used: An ordered list uses <ol> ... </ol>; an unordered list uses <ul> ... </ul>.
Marker shown: An ordered list marks each item with a number (or letter) in sequence — 1, 2, 3 ...; an unordered list marks each item with a bullet.
When used: An ordered list is used when the order of items is important, such as the steps of a procedure or a ranked list; an unordered list is used when the order does not matter, such as a shopping list of items.
For example, the steps to open a web page suit an ordered list, while a list of stationery items suits an unordered list.
