Ciliated Epithelium

Ciliated epithelium is made of cuboidal or columnar cells whose broad free end bears numerous hair-like cilia, while the narrower opposite end rests on the basement membrane. The nucleus is oval and lies towards the base of the cell.

Function: the coordinated beating of the cilia creates a current that moves surface material in one specific direction — this both keeps foreign particles from entering passages such as the trachea and helps propel the ovum along the oviduct. …
