Squamous Epithelial Tissue

Squamous epithelial tissue is made of flat, thin, polygonal cells with an irregular, serrated (saw-toothed) margin. Because adjoining cells interlock along these wavy edges much like the tiles of a paved footpath, this tissue is also called pavement epithelium. Each cell carries a single, prominent, spherical-to-oval nucleus placed roughly at its centre.
