Amitosis

Amitosis is the simplest possible way a cell can divide, and it happens without the elaborate chromosome-condensation and spindle machinery that mitosis and meiosis rely on. In amitosis, the nucleus itself simply elongates, and a constriction develops somewhere along its length. This constriction gradually deepens until it splits the nucleus into two daughter nuclei — usually unequal in size, since there is no mechanism ensuring the split is even. The division of the cytoplasm follows the same way, producing two daughter cells.
