Characteristics of Equilibrium Constant

The equilibrium constant has four defining characteristics. (1) Its value is independent of the initial concentrations of either the reactants or the products -- starting from any mixture, the same KcK_c is reached at equilibrium at a given temperature. (2) It is temperature-dependent: both KcK_c and KpK_p change if the temperature changes (Section 12.8.1(c)). (3) It has one characteristic value for a particular reversible reaction, as written by a specific balanced equation, at a given temperature -- writing the same reaction with different coefficients, or in reverse, gives a different (though related) value.
