(1) It rests on the UNREALISTIC assumption of full employment of resources in the economy as a whole, an assumption rarely true in the real world. (2) Its 'other things being equal' (ceteris paribus) assumption is itself unrealistic, since in the real economy many variables genuinely change at the same time. (3) It CANNOT explain aggregate, economy-wide phenomena — such as the general price level, national income, or a business cycle — because it studies only one unit or market at a time. (4) It is subject to the FALLACY OF COMPOSITION — what is true for ONE individual unit need not be true for the economy as a whole; for example, if one farmer alone grows a bumper crop, that farmer benefits, but if EVERY farmer does so simultaneously, the market price may collapse so far tha …
