Units of energy and work

1 J=1 kg m2 s−2=1 Pa m31\ \mathrm{J} = 1\ \mathrm{kg\,m^2\,s^{-2}} = 1\ \mathrm{Pa\,m^3}

1 Pa=1 kg m−1 s−21\ \mathrm{Pa} = 1\ \mathrm{kg\,m^{-1}\,s^{-2}}

From Eq. (4.5), W=−Pext ΔVW = -P_{ext}\,\Delta V: if the pressure is expressed in bar and ΔV\Delta V in dm3^3, then the work has the units of bar dm3^3.

1 bar=105 Pa=105 kg m−1 s−21\ \mathrm{bar} = 10^5\ \mathrm{Pa} = 10^5\ \mathrm{kg\,m^{-1}\,s^{-2}} …
