Nylon 2-nylon 6 is a biodegradable polyamide copolymer built from two different amino acid monomers: glycine, the simplest amino acid, which contributes the 'nylon 2' portion of the repeating chain (its name reflecting glycine's 2-carbon backbone), and epsilon-aminocaproic acid, a 6-carbon amino acid, which contributes the 'nylon 6' portion (matching the same 6-carbon numbering convention used for the ordinary ring-opened nylon 6 of section 15.3.5). The two amino acids condense together through amide (-CO-NH-) linkages, exactly as in ordinary nylon formation, but because the chain alternates/incorporates two chemically different amino-acid-derived repeat units it is a genuine copolymer.
