Range R∝u2R \propto u^2, so doubling the launch speed while keeping the angle fixed makes the range 4 times as large.

For a projectile launched with speed uu at angle θ\theta to the horizontal, the horizontal range is:

R=u2sin⁡2θgR = \dfrac{u^2 \sin 2\theta}{g}

If the speed is doubled, u′=2uu' = 2u, while θ\theta (and hence sin⁡2θ\sin 2\theta) and gg stay the same:

R′=(2u)2sin⁡2θg=4u2sin⁡2θg=4RR' = \dfrac{(2u)^2 \sin 2\theta}{g} = \dfrac{4u^2 \sin 2\theta}{g} = 4R
