The consumption function is a complete functional relationship, C = f(Y); the amount of consumption is a single point/value taken from that relationship.

The Consumption Function (also called the propensity to consume) is the functional relationship between consumption expenditure (C) and the level of income (Y), usually written as C = f(Y) or C = a + bY. It describes how planned consumption expenditure changes at EVERY possible level of income, and is normally shown as an entire schedule or curve.

The Amount of Consumption, on the other hand, is simply the actual Rupee value of consumption expenditure corresponding to ONE specific level of income -- it is a single point read off the consumption function, not the whole relationship itself.
