Is equal height necessary? No. The maximum line-of-sight range is dM=2RhT+2RhRd_M=\sqrt{2Rh_T}+\sqrt{2Rh_R} — a sum of two independent terms, one for each antenna's own height. The two heights can be different; the formula still applies (if hR=0h_R=0, that term simply vanishes).

Given: transmitting antenna height hT=81h_T = 81 m, receiving antenna at ground level so hR=0h_R = 0, R=6.4×106R = 6.4\times10^{6} m.

Step 1 — Range (radius of coverage).

With hR=0h_R=0:

d=2RhT=2×6.4×106×81=1.0368×109d = \sqrt{2Rh_T} = \sqrt{2 \times 6.4\times10^{6} \times 81} = \sqrt{1.0368\times10^{9}}

d≈3.220×104 m=32.2 kmd \approx 3.220\times10^{4}\ \text{m} = 32.2\ \text{km}

Step 2 — Service area. …
