Resistivity is a material property defined by ρ=RA/l\rho = RA/l, measured in Ω m\Omega\,m, unlike resistance RR which also depends on the conductor's geometry.

For a conductor of length ll, uniform cross-sectional area AA, and resistance RR, it is found experimentally that

R∝lA⇒R=ρ lAR \propto \frac{l}{A} \quad\Rightarrow\quad R = \rho\,\frac{l}{A}

where the constant of proportionality ρ\rho is called the electrical resistivity (or specific resistance) of the material:

ρ=RAl\rho = \frac{RA}{l}

If l=1l=1 and A=1A=1 (unit length, unit cross-section), then ρ=R\rho = R. So resistivity is numerically equal to the resistance of a unit cube of the material — it characterises how strongly a material itself opposes current flow, independent of the particular size or shape of the sample.
