Stretching to double the length halves the cross-sectional area (volume is conserved), and since R=ρl/AR=\rho l/A, the resistance becomes 4 times the original, while resistivity itself doesn't change.

Resistivity ρ\rho is an intrinsic property of the material (depending on its composition and temperature), not on its shape or dimensions. Since the wire is stretched (not changed in material or temperature), its resistivity is unaffected: ρ′=ρ\rho' = \rho.

When the wire is stretched to double its length, its volume is conserved (same amount of metal):

Al=A′(2l)  ⟹  A′=A2A l = A' (2l) \implies A' = \frac{A}{2}
