Intramural
The word intramural comes from Latin roots meaning "within the walls". In the context of sports, an intramural tournament is a competition organised within a single institution, school or community, in which only its own students or members take part. No outside team is invited — the players compete against one another as Houses, Classes, Hostels or resident groups of the same institution.
An intramural programme can be as small as a single event or game, or as large as several games and sports spread over a day, a month or an entire academic year. Familiar examples include the annual Sports Day, a Sports Festival, an Athletics Meet, a Swimming Meet or an inter-House Badminton Tournament held among the classes and houses of one school. Because the competition stays inside the institution, it is easy to organise, low in cost and open to every student rather than only trained players. …
