Molarity measures moles of solute per litre of solution, while Normality measures gram-equivalents of solute per litre, and depends on the reaction the solute undergoes.

Molarity (M): defined as the number of moles of solute dissolved per litre (dm3) of solution.

M = (moles of solute) / (volume of solution in litres)

Molarity is a fixed property of a given solution and does NOT change with the type of reaction the solute participates in.

Normality (N): defined as the number of gram-equivalents of solute dissolved per litre of solution.

N = (gram-equivalents of solute) / (volume of solution in litres) = Molarity x n-factor
