Dual nature of radiation: Light (electromagnetic radiation) shows wave-like behaviour in phenomena such as interference, diffraction, and polarization — these can only be explained by treating light as a wave with wavelength and frequency. However, in phenomena such as the photoelectric effect and the Compton effect, light behaves as a stream of discrete energy packets called photons, each carrying energy and momentum , and interacts with matter as particles, not as a continuous wave. Neither picture alone (pure wave or pure particle) can explain all observed phenomena — light exhibits both natures, though never both simultaneously in the same experiment.
