An equipotential surface has the same potential everywhere; field lines cross it perpendicularly (angle = 90°).

Definition: An equipotential surface is a surface at every point of which the electric potential has the same value. Because the potential is constant over it, the potential difference between any two of its points is zero, so no work is done in moving a charge along an equipotential surface (W = q x deltaV = 0).
