Concept of over-load. Over-load means deliberately raising the training load — intensity, volume or density — above the level the body is currently accustomed to. This controlled extra stress, followed by recovery, forces the body to adapt and reach a higher level of fitness. Overload is essential for improvement, but it must be balanced with recovery; if the load rises faster than the body can recover, it turns into harmful over-training.
Two signs/symptoms of over-training (any two):
- Constant tiredness / fatigue that does not go away with normal rest.
- Disturbed sleep (poor or broken sleep).
