Digital Society and Netizen

As society leans ever more heavily on digital technology, most of our routine tasks end up being handled digitally — and that shift creates a new identity for each of us: the digital citizen, with duties to match.

The digital society

We now live in an era where daily activities are increasingly driven by online transactions. The book lists the spheres this covers:

  • communication
  • social networking
  • banking
  • shopping
  • entertainment
  • education
  • transportation

A digital society is precisely this growing trend of using digital technologies in all spheres of human activity.

Netizen — the digital citizen

Anyone who uses digital technology along with the Internet is a digital citizen, or netizen. Membership is automatic; behaving well in that role is not. While online, each of us needs to be aware of:

  • how to conduct ourselves,
  • how best to relate with others, and
  • what ethics, morals and values to maintain.

Being a good netizen means practising the safe, ethical and legal use of digital technology.
