Q.Represent graphically the displacement of
Step 1. Draw the four reference directions N, S, E, W meeting at a point , as compass directions.
Step 2. For (i), start along the East ray from . Since the displacement is ' north of east', rotate the East ray through towards North. Along this new ray, mark a point so that cm (to a chosen scale, e.g. cm). The vector is the required displacement.
Step 3. For (ii), start along the West ray from . Since the displacement is ' south of west', rotate the West ray through towards South. Mark a point on this ray so that km (to scale). The vector is the required displacement.
Step 4. In each case the drawn segment has both a definite length (the magnitude) and a definite direction (measured from the named reference axis), so it correctly represents the displacement vector.
- : length cm, at from East towards North.
