Three applications of viscosity:

Choice of lubricants: Machines with moving parts (engines, gears, bearings) need a lubricating oil of the correct viscosity — too low and the oil film breaks down under load (excess wear); too high and it wastes energy resisting motion. Engineers select lubricant viscosity (and viscosity-temperature behaviour, since viscosity of liquids decreases with rising temperature) to suit each machine's operating conditions.

Blood circulation and medicine: Blood viscosity affects how easily the heart can pump it through blood vessels; conditions like dehydration or certain blood disorders change blood viscosity, and understanding viscous flow (through vessels analogous to pipes) helps in diagnosing and managing cardiovascular conditions.
