| Basis | Gross Profit Ratio | Net Profit Ratio |
|---|---|---|
| Formula | Gross Profit ÷ Revenue from Operations × 100 | Net Profit (after tax) ÷ Revenue from Operations × 100 |
| What is deducted before this margin | Only the direct Cost of Revenue from Operations | Cost of Revenue from Operations, ALL operating expenses, interest, AND tax |
| What it shows | The margin available from the core buying/selling (or production) activity alone | The final, true margin retained by the firm after every expense |
| Value in this chapter's data | 30% | 13.5% |
