These standards prescribe matters such as the notice period, the contents of the agenda, the manner of recording minutes, and other procedural requirements for holding valid meetings. Their legal status is what makes them distinctive: under Section 118(10) of the Companies Act, 2013, every company is required to observe the Secretarial Standards specified by ICSI.
