A bear is a pessimistic speculator who sells expecting prices to fall, planning to buy back cheaper later.

Among the speculators on a stock exchange, a bear is one who takes a pessimistic view of the market. His characteristics are:

  • Expectation of a fall: a bear believes that the prices of securities will decline in the near future.
