NITI Aayog promotes cooperative federalism, prepares long-term strategic plans, acts as a policy think-tank, and monitors and evaluates government programmes.

NITI Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India) was constituted on 1 January 2015 in place of the Planning Commission.

Functions (any four):

1. Cooperative federalism — to promote the active participation of states in the national development process ("Team India").
2. Strategic and long-term policy — to formulate long-term policies and programmes and provide a shared national vision.
