Introduction

This chapter builds directly on the previous one on Mendelian genetics, moving from Mendel's own findings to how those abstract 'factors' turned out to correspond to real, physical structures inside the cell - the chromosomal theory of inheritance. Students are expected to carry forward their understanding of chromosome structure and the stages of cell division already covered in Class XI, since this chapter treats that material as a foundation rather than repeating it in detail.
