Step 1. The Tundra biome is the almost treeless plain found in the northern parts of Asia, Europe and North America, with long winters of little daylight and short summers of long daylight, precipitation under 250 mm/year, and permafrost soil; its flora is limited to dwarf willows, birches, mosses, grasses and sedges, with herbivores such as reindeer, arctic hare and musk ox.

Step 2. The Taiga biome lies immediately south of the Tundra, forming a 1300-1450 km wide belt with long, cold winters but a milder summer temperature range of 10°C to 21°C, and higher precipitation of about 380-1000 mm annually.

Step 3. Vegetation differs sharply: Tundra vegetation is simple and dwarfed (willows, mosses, sedges) due to permafrost and the short growing season, while Taiga is a true forest of coniferous trees such as spruce, fir and pine, supporting a major logging industry. …
