An ideal solution obeys Raoult's law over the entire range of concentration; mixing causes no enthalpy or volume change.

A solution is called ideal if, at all compositions and temperatures, the partial vapour pressure of each component is directly proportional to its mole fraction, i.e. it obeys Raoult's law: pA=pA0xAp_A = p_A^{0}x_A and pB=pB0xBp_B = p_B^{0}x_B. This happens when the A-A, B-B and A-B intermolecular interactions in the mixture are all of essentially the same strength/type, so a molecule of A 'feels' no different surrounded by B molecules than by other A molecules.
