Specific resistance (resistivity) rho = R A / L is a material property; its SI unit is ohm-metre.

Definition: For a uniform conductor, resistance R = rho L / A, where L is length and A is cross-sectional area. Rearranging, the specific resistance (resistivity) is

rho = R A / L.

So specific resistance is the resistance offered by a conductor of that material having unit length and unit area of cross-section. It depends only on the material and its temperature, not on the conductor's dimensions.

Units: rho = (ohm x square metre) / metre = ohm-metre (ohm m) in SI.
