X-rays are high-energy, highly penetrating electromagnetic radiation, so their main uses exploit their ability to pass through soft tissue/materials while being absorbed by denser matter.

X-rays lie in the electromagnetic spectrum between ultraviolet and gamma rays, with very short wavelength (~0.01 nm to 10 nm) and correspondingly high photon energy and penetrating power. Two well-known uses:
