Tests in PE and sport are classified by nature and purpose into four categories: Psychomotor, Anthropometric, Affective domain, and Cognitive domain tests — because skill/fitness tests alone cannot fully capture an athlete's ability.

Section 6.3.1 explains that other factors besides skill and fitness — anthropometric traits, motivation, concentration — also affect performance, so a variety of test types is needed for a comprehensive assessment:
