(a) Entropy: Entropy (symbol S) is a thermodynamic state function that quantifies the degree of randomness or disorder in a system. The more disordered/random the arrangement of particles, the higher the entropy. It is defined via delta-S = q(rev)/T for a reversible process at temperature T.
(b) Mathematical value of Enthalpy: Enthalpy is defined by the relation H = U + pV, where U is the internal energy, p is pressure, and V is volume of the system.
(c) Change in internal energy: By the First Law of Thermodynamics, delta-U = q + w, using the convention that heat absorbed BY the system is positive and work done BY the system (on the surroundings) is taken as negative work on the system:
