Applications of Internet
The Internet is not a single service — it is a platform that enables many different kinds of communication and information sharing. The textbook lists four broad application areas that the Internet provides.
The World Wide Web (WWW) is the most visible part of the Internet. It is a system of interlinked hypertext documents (web pages) accessed via a web browser. The WWW allows users to view text, images, videos, and other multimedia content from websites around the world. It is the foundation for browsing, searching, and retrieving information online.
Electronic mail (Email) is a method of exchanging digital messages between people using electronic devices. Email works through a system of mail servers and uses addresses (in the form name@example.com) to route messages. It allows sending not only text but also attachments such as documents, images, and files. Email is one of the oldest and most widely used Internet applications for personal and professional communication.
Chat refers to real-time text-based communication between two or more users over the Internet. Unlike email, which is asynchronous, chat happens instantly — messages appear on the recipient's screen as soon as they are sent. Chat can be one-to-one (instant messaging) or group-based (chat rooms). Modern chat applications often support voice and video calls as well. …
