Implantation is the attachment/embedding of the blastocyst into the uterine wall, marking the start of pregnancy.

After fertilization in the fallopian tube (ampullary-isthmic junction), the zygote undergoes repeated mitotic divisions (cleavage) as it travels down the oviduct, forming a morula and then a blastocyst by the time it reaches the uterus, roughly 5-7 days after fertilization. The blastocyst then gets attached to the endometrium of the uterus - this process is called implantation.
