Pollination is the transfer of pollen from anther to stigma; chasmogamous flowers open (anthers/stigma exposed, allowing outcrossing) while cleistogamous flowers remain permanently closed, forcing self-pollination.

Pollination is defined as the transfer of pollen grains from the anther of a flower to the stigma of the same flower (self-pollination) or a different flower (cross-pollination), a necessary step before fertilisation can occur.

Chasmogamous flowers are flowers with exposed anthers and stigma, similar in structure to typical open flowers - because the reproductive organs are exposed, both self- and cross-pollination are possible, and pollinating agents (wind, insects, etc.) can bring in pollen from other flowers.
