Pollination is carried out by both abiotic agents (wind, water) and biotic agents (insects, birds, bats etc.); wind pollination shows characteristic adaptations - light non-sticky pollen produced in large quantities, exposed stamens and large feathery stigmas.

Agents of pollination are broadly of two kinds: Abiotic agents - wind (anemophily) and water (hydrophily), where pollination happens without help from a living organism; and Biotic agents - insects (entomophily, the most common), birds (ornithophily), bats (chiropterophily) and even some other animals like snails, which are attracted to flowers and inadvertently carry pollen between them.
