Floriculture = cultivation of ornamental/flowering plants; a stamen consists of a filament bearing a bilobed, dithecous anther that produces pollen. (A labelled diagram of a stamen must be drawn.)

Floriculture: It is the branch of horticulture that deals with the cultivation of flowering and ornamental plants for gardens, for cut-flowers/bouquets and for decorative purposes (e.g. rose, marigold, jasmine, gladiolus).

Structure of a stamen: The stamen is the male reproductive organ (part of the androecium) of a flower. It has two parts:

  1. Filament - the long, slender stalk. Its proximal end is attached to the thalamus or the petal of the flower.
  2. Anther - borne at the tip (distal end) of the filament. A typical anther is bilobed, with each lobe having two chambers - so it is dithecous (bilobed, tetrasporangiate). Inside the pollen sacs (microsporangia) of the anther, pollen grains (microspores) are produced by meiosis in the microspore mother cells. …
