For the circuits LPP of Exercise 11, profit Z=50x+60yZ=50x+60y is greatest at (283,43)\left(\dfrac{28}{3},\dfrac{4}{3}\right), giving 16403≈₹546.67\dfrac{1640}{3}\approx ₹546.67.

The referenced problem (Exercise 11)

A manufacturer has 200200 resistors, 120120 transistors and 150150 capacitors. Type A needs 2020 resistors, 1010 transistors, 1010 capacitors (profit ₹50); Type B needs 1010 resistors, 2020 transistors, 3030 capacitors (profit ₹60). Let xx = number of Type A, yy = number of Type B.

Maximise Z=50x+60y\text{Maximise } Z=50x+60y

20x+10y≤200,10x+20y≤120,10x+30y≤150,x,y≥0,20x+10y\le 200,\quad 10x+20y\le 120,\quad 10x+30y\le 150,\quad x,y\ge 0,

which simplify to

2x+y≤20,x+2y≤12,x+3y≤15.2x+y\le 20,\qquad x+2y\le 12,\qquad x+3y\le 15.

Step 1 — Corner points

  • (0,0)(0,0).
  • 2x+y=202x+y=20 with y=0⇒(10,0)y=0\Rightarrow(10,0) (check x+2y=10≤12x+2y=10\le12, x+3y=10≤15x+3y=10\le15).
  • x+3y=15x+3y=15 with x=0⇒(0,5)x=0\Rightarrow(0,5) (check x+2y=10≤12x+2y=10\le12, 2x+y=5≤202x+y=5\le20).
  • x+2y=12x+2y=12 and x+3y=15x+3y=15: subtract ⇒y=3, x=6⇒(6,3)\Rightarrow y=3,\,x=6\Rightarrow(6,3) (check 2x+y=15≤202x+y=15\le20).
  • 2x+y=202x+y=20 and x+2y=12x+2y=12: y=20−2xy=20-2x, so x+2(20−2x)=12⇒−3x=−28⇒x=283, y=43x+2(20-2x)=12\Rightarrow -3x=-28\Rightarrow x=\dfrac{28}{3},\,y=\dfrac{4}{3} (check x+3y=403≤15x+3y=\dfrac{40}{3}\le15).

Step 2 — Evaluate Z=50x+60yZ=50x+60y
