Using estimated workers = (population multiplied by worker-population ratio) divided by 100: urban workers work out to about 9.61 crore and total workers to about 39.7 crore for India in 1999-2000.

Concept first

The number of workers in a region is estimated by applying its worker-population ratio to its population:

Estimated workers = (Population multiplied by Worker-population ratio) divided by 100.

The question already applies this to the rural region and asks us to complete the urban and total rows.

Working

RegionPopulation (crores)Worker-population ratioEstimated workers (crores)
Rural71.8841.9(71.88 multiplied by 41.9) divided by 100 = 30.12
Urban28.5233.7(28.52 multiplied by 33.7) divided by 100 = 9.61
Total100.4039.5(100.40 multiplied by 39.5) divided by 100 = 39.66
