Flowchart and Reaction Summary of Hydrocarbons

The chapter closes with a two-page flowchart-style recap (spanning alkanes, alkenes, alkynes) that regroups every preparation method and every chemical reaction already covered in the chapter into one visual reference, organised around each hydrocarbon class as the hub: for ALKANES it re-collects the routes in from hydrogenation of alkenes/alkynes, decarboxylation, Kolbe's electrolysis, Wurtz/Frankland/Grignard routes, and the routes out via combustion, halogenation, aromatisation, steam reforming, pyrolysis and isomerisation; for ALKENES it re-collects the routes in from alcohol dehydration, controlled alkyne hydrogenation, dehydrohalogenation and dehalogenation of vicinal dihalides, and Kolbe's electrolysis of dicarboxylate salts, and the routes out via hydrogenation, halogenation, hydration, hydrohalogenation (Markovnikov and peroxide-effect), oxidation, ozonolysis and polymerisation; for ALKYNES it re-collects the two-step routes in from vicinal dihalides and gem-dihalides plus Kolbe's electrolysis of unsaturated dicarboxylate salts, and the routes out via hydrogenation, bromination, hydrohalogenation, hydration and ozonolysis. No new chemistry is introduced here -- every arrow in the flowchar …
