Le-Chatelier's Principle
Many industrially important chemical reactions -- ammonia synthesis among them -- are reversible, so it matters a great deal to know which reaction conditions will push the equilibrium toward the highest possible yield. Le Chatelier-Braun's principle predicts exactly how a system at equilibrium responds to a change in conditions such as temperature, pressure or concentration:
"If a system at equilibrium is disturbed, then the system shifts itself in a direction that nullifies the effect of that disturbance." …
