Newton's Universal Law of Gravitation states: Every particle of matter in the universe attracts every other particle with a force which is directly proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them. This force acts along the line joining the two particles.
Mathematically, for two point masses m1 and m2 separated by a distance r:
F = G m1 m2 / r^2
where G is the universal gravitational constant (G ≈ 6.674 × 10^-11 N m^2/kg^2), the same for all pairs of masses everywhere in the universe.
