Vegetation refers to the plant cover found across a region. India, a tropical country with a strong monsoon climate that sets it apart from other tropical regions of the world, is divided into four major climatic regions — wet, intermediate, dry and arid zones — each of which supports a different character of natural vegetation, shaped further by altitude, soil type, climate and the long history of human (anthropogenic) influence on plant formation and distribution.
