Forestry

Forestry, in the sense used across this section, is the deliberate management of tree cover to deliver both economic and environmental benefit rather than leaving forests purely as land to be extracted from or cleared. Two complementary approaches are covered: agroforestry, which integrates trees directly into farmland alongside crops and livestock on the same plot, and social (or community) forestry, which grows trees on land outside formally designated forests — roadsides, farm bunds, tank foreshores and other public or private land — for broader environmental, social and rural-development benefit.
