Autooxidation of Ethers
On storage in contact with atmospheric oxygen, ethers slowly and spontaneously oxidise -- a process called AUTOOXIDATION -- to form hydroperoxides and dialkyl peroxides (e.g. ethoxyethane forms 1-ethoxyethyl hydroperoxide and diethyl peroxide).
