The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), established in 1948 and headquartered in Gland, Switzerland, is an organisation dedicated to nature conservation and the sustainable use of natural resources, active in data gathering and analysis, field research projects, and education on conservation, sustainable development and biodiversity. Its stated mission is to influence, encourage and assist societies across the world to conserve nature and to ensure that any use of natural resources is both equitable and ecologically sustainable, work it carries out largely by partnering with and advising governments and industries.
