Microeconomics (from the Greek 'micro' meaning small) studies the economic behaviour of individual units in the economy — an individual consumer, a firm, a household, or a single market/commodity. It analyses how the prices of particular goods and particular factors of production are determined through demand and supply, how a consumer attains equilibrium, and how a firm decides output. Because it centres on price determination, it is also called Price Theory.

Meaning of Microeconomics

The word 'microeconomics' is derived from the Greek word 'micro', meaning small. Microeconomics studies the economic actions and decisions of individual economic units rather than the economy as a whole. Its main concerns are:
